a million miles away from anything
torn between the skyline that you lust for
and the ground you plant your feet
sucking down your pride the strength comes
to your legs and then you take a leap
towards the burning sun, the breathy sky
ignoring all that lies beneath

but you fall and land on your feet
call a locksmith, taxi home and fall asleep

pen popped on a letter written
confession for a lover far away
but now your allegory's stained and spoiled
so wringing out your cramps you start again
but failing to recall your invented idiom
you feel your words turn fake
the inky mess, a sullied wreck
reminds you of the confines of the day

staring upwards, you rise to your feet
push your chair in, let the stain set, go to sleep
